These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the RoamLore app and website ("RoamLore", the "Service", "we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
RoamLore is a learning game that turns real places, food, culture, and history into short, playful quizzes — a way to explore the world through play, starting with Japan and growing from there.
1. Who We Are
The Service is operated by RoamLore, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Contact: [email protected].
2. Relationship to App Store Terms
If you download RoamLore from a third-party app store (such as the Apple App Store or Google Play), that store's terms — including Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, where applicable — also apply to your use of the app. Where those store terms conflict with these Terms regarding the app itself, the store terms prevail for that conflict. These Terms otherwise govern your relationship with us for the Service as a whole.
3. Eligibility
RoamLore is a general-audience service and is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the EEA/UK, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are a minor in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required by law.
4. Your Account
RoamLore is playable without an account. If you choose to sign in (for example, with Apple or Google) to save and sync your progress:
- you are responsible for activity that occurs under your account;
- you agree to provide accurate information and keep your sign-in credentials secure;
- you must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.
You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 11).
5. Licence to Use the Service
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the Service for your own non-commercial use. We retain all rights not expressly granted.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where permitted by law;
- access the Service through automated means (bots, scrapers) in a way that disrupts or overloads it;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, accounts, or networks, or interfere with the security or integrity of the Service;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or its content without our written permission.
We may suspend or terminate access if you misuse the Service.
7. Our Content and Intellectual Property
All content provided through the Service — including quizzes, questions, explanations, text, maps, the Poko character, illustrations, logos, and software — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited licence in Section 5, these Terms do not grant you any rights in our content.
The factual subject matter of our quizzes (geography, history, culture) is not owned by us; our specific selection, wording, and presentation are.
8. Contributions
If you submit photos, local knowledge, corrections, feedback, or other materials to us (for example, through our contributor form), your submission is governed by our separate Contributor Terms. In short: you keep ownership of your own original work, you grant us a licence to use it in the Service, and you confirm you have the right to share it. Please read the Contributor Terms before submitting.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service may rely on or link to third-party services (such as sign-in providers and infrastructure providers). We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third parties. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that:
- the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free;
- the educational content is complete, accurate, or up to date for every purpose;
- the Service will meet your specific expectations.
RoamLore is an educational game and should not be relied on as authoritative reference, travel, or professional advice.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting [email protected]. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (for example, intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (for example, certain consumer rights). Where liability cannot be fully excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or, if the Service was free to you, to a nominal amount permitted by law.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in British Columbia will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice (for example, in the app). Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
